There are many reasons to consider a new Porsche car when the time comes for a performance luxury vehicle. They’re well-equipped, high-tech, comfortable on every ride, and built with advanced testing and design support at every stage — including the use of an artificial head known as SAM. You can experience the difference SAM makes when you test-drive a car at Porsche Silver Spring.

The Little Sounds

SAM stands for “sound acoustic module” and is a tool used by Porsche designers and engineers to monitor the safety and comfort of Porsche vehicles. SAM is an artificial head that features two ICP® microphones designed to capture loud and soft sounds. Thanks to this innovative tool, Porsche designers and engineers can mimic the real-time experience of driving a Porsche model and pay closer attention to the sounds that might not otherwise be accounted for. That includes the smaller movements we don’t even think about, like the sound of the oil pump, how the door opens and closes, and how the windshield wipers sound on the surface of the windshield.

The Big Sounds

SAM is also used to monitor the engine sounds and ensure the exhaust note provides the signature Porsche driving experience. With electric vehicles, it monitors the humming and vibrations, and any faulty or imperfect noises recorded over the more than 2,000 test kilometers are immediately addressed and adjusted.
